Mission
Statement The
primary mission of U.S.C.G. Auxiliary Division 5 (5nr)
is to promote boating safety and enhance the security of our citizens and
infrastructure along local waterways through boating safety classes,
recreational vessel safety checks, public affairs events and operational
patrols. The Division will
also, support other missions of U.S.C.G. units within District 5 to the
best of its ability. Recognizing
that all accomplishments result from the planning done by the Division’s
constituent flotillas and the collective efforts of flotilla members, the
Division will address its responsibilities for Recreational Boating
Safety, Coast Guard Augmentation and Maritime Homeland Security by
providing necessary support and available resources to its flotillas,
promoting on-going training of current members and encouraging the
selective recruiting of new members, based on our growing understanding of
the challenges and changes facing the Auxiliary in the post-9/11 era. During the awards luncheon at the spring conference, the Commander of Tracen Cape May had us stand and repeat the new Guardian Ethos passed down from the Commandant. I think all of us who repeated the Ethos were moved and inspired by doing so. It represents the core of what it means to be a member of the Coast Guard and Coast Guard Auxiliary. Please read this so that you may completely undertand what being a member means to each of us. You will find the Ethos here.
Robert E. Schneider, Commander
Division 5 (5nr)
